Buying Digital Signage Displays: What Really Matters
Share
Professional display or a regular TV?
A consumer TV is built for a few hours of home cinema – not for continuous operation in a shop window. Professional digital signage displays are brighter, more durable and built for 16/7 or 24/7 use. If you need to display reliably around the clock, they’re cheaper in the long run. How display, player and CMS work together is shown in our digital signage guide.
What to look for when buying
- Brightness: from ~350–500 cd/m² indoors, much higher for shop windows against sunlight.
- Operating hours: 16/7 for opening hours, 24/7 for continuous use.
- Resolution: 4K for crisp content and close-up readability.
- Orientation: portrait and landscape – important for shop windows.
- Built-in player: a display with an integrated compute module saves external hardware.
- Size & viewing distance: the further away, the larger.
Which size for which use?
Rule of thumb: checkout and counter displays 32–43”, shop windows 43–55”, reception and lobby 55–65”, large areas and video walls from 75”. When in doubt, go a size up – every screen looks smaller from a distance.
lumafy displays
The lumafy ONE is the ultra-thin design display for prestige spaces; the lumafy CORE is the rugged all-rounder for continuous operation – both with the native lumafy CMS, no extra player.
